A GUIDE TO FORENSIC ACCOUNTING INVESTIGATION
Tom Literally Wrote the Book on Investigating Accounting Fraud
Tom Golden’s expertise in forensic accounting investigation is best demonstrated by Wiley, the world’s largest business book publisher, inviting Golden to discuss their vision of publishing and globally marketing “The Seminal Guide to Forensic Accounting Investigation.” That call came in the wake of two giant corporate fraud discoveries, WorldCom and Enron, where massive frauds went undetected until a faltering market economy exposed the ugly side of corporate fraud. Golden proposed the idea to the PwC leadership, and they enthusiastically agreed.
Golden recognized that creating such a comprehensive work encompassing a broad spectrum of subjects would be highly challenging. Following Golden’s recommendation, Wiley and PwC authorized him to recruit the nearly fifty named authors from across the globe to write twenty-eight chapters and more than 500 pages. Expert advice in averting the next financial catastrophe. The project took three years but was well worth the effort. This publication is also utilized as a textbook, thereby achieving Golden’s objective of introducing the study of this discipline into academic settings. Before his forensics class at DePaul University, such courses were not available. The Chicago Tribune reporter who observed Tom’s first class remarked, “I had never heard the terms forensic and accounting included in the same sentence.” PwC purchased 30,000 copies in the first printing, now in its second edition.
